Jonesing for Gelato in Paris – Caramella – rue des Martyrs
August 9, 2009
I’ve been back from Italy 8 days now. I am settling nicely into my Parisian rhythm, but I still heed the call for gelato. As I thought luck would have it, there is an Italian-owned gelato shop, Caramella, right around the corner from me on the rue des Martyrs. As luck would not have it, connecting with Caramella is a challenge; either they are closed when they are supposed to be open, open but with technical problems and melted ice cream, open with no ice cream, or just plain closed. This evening I made it over there at 20:30 (they close at 21h) to find a few remaining flavors (no speculos or caramel) and ordered a cup of fior de latte and chocolate. It was more excellent than I would have expected from an Italian gelateria in Paris. The unfortunate news; rumor has it that the shop is being sold and paninis are going in. Well, it’s not closed yet, summer isn’t over, and I will be taking full advantage while I can!

Still open, and speculous is still wonderful!
I may have to try that…On a different note, do you think any hair salons are open in August ?
Amorino in Paris is delicious as well. Though I’ve never had gelato in Italy…
