Tying the Knot… French Style

Summer may be waning, but wedding season is far from over in France. For many foreigners, the idea of planning a wedding here is both enchanting and daunting. But don’t be deterred by the  logistical challenges. Planning a wedding—or any important event—in France can actually be simpler and more financially plausible than you might think. The consultants at Fête in France, a Paris-based event planning firm that caters to the English-speaking community, share their thoughts on why France remains the premier location for an unforgettable destination wedding.

In our work, we are often met with the question “Why get married in France?”

In addition to the obvious—It’s France!—there are so many things that set this country apart and make it an ideal place to plan a wedding or other momentous event.

Anyone who has strolled along the Seine in Paris or visited a fairytale castle in the Loire Valley knows that France is full of romantic spots and hidden havens—from riverboats on the Seine, to historic chateaux, to converted abbeys. And here’s the good news: planning a wedding in France does not have to be prohibitively expensive. Companies like Fête in France are accustomed to working with a range of budgets, and couples who choose to have their weddings in France are always impressed by the great values to be found, whether it’s for a weekend rental of a chateau, a lavish wedding meal that includes foie gras, or hand-picked wines from local producers.

In addition to providing exceptional cuisine and breathtaking settings, the French take partying very seriously. It’s traditional for wedding receptions to go all night with guests dancing until morning, pausing only to indulge in elegant but much-needed late-night snacks (think mini croque monsieurs & French onion soup).

So whether you’re a confirmed francophile or a débutant, it’s a wonderful time to indulge your romantic side by planning your destination wedding in France.
