Listening for French in New York

I am living every Parisian’s dream, i.e., I am living in New York. After over a year in Paris and a few months in Montreal, I am back where I began, albeit with a much different perspective on just about everything. Since getting back, I’ve been delighted to find that you can’t go too far in New York without hearing some French. I find myself aggressively eavesdropping on French conversations in the subway and lingering a little longer on corners where French people are chatting, just in case they need my input on the matter at hand. Fiac Paris, Oct 22-25, 09 Contemporary Art’s Creme de la Creme

FIAC pariswww.amisdesmusees.lu

True to Parisian form, Fiac, the international contemporary art fair taking place October 22-25, aims to impress. Hundreds of works, spread throughout the Tuilleries gardens, the Cour Carrée of the Louvre and the Grand Palais, promise to shock, amaze, frustrate and provoke – just what the French (and Francophiles) need to get a little healthy, argumentative blood flowing. Have Your Tea… And Eat It Too

Guest blogger Sally Peabody continues her search for edible delicacies at Paris’ various tea salons…

9- GERARD MULOTA tea flavored ‘macaron’ Gerard Mulot Paris – Paris Breakfasts

Text by Sally Peabody, Your Great Days in Paris

Paris abounds in splendid tea salons and tea shops. For those who love to brew, Paris is the tea capital of the world as a result of the high quality and the diversity of fine tea served and sold here. But the tea itself is just the beginning, since the city’s masterpatissiers, chocolatiers, and tea salons offer up numerous diverting edible options.  Here is my favorite short list of where to go to enjoy fine tea out of the pot and delicacies on the plate! Wine Harvest in Paris – Montmartre’s Fête des Vendanges

nose in winePhoto: Painting in Paris

We all know that France produces its fair share of wine, but did you know that Montmartre has its own wine-producing tradition? In addition to being the home of Paris’ only functioning vineyard, it is also home to the Fête des Vendanges, an annual wine festival that celebrates local products and culture. This year’s festival kicked off on Wednesday and runs through Sunday the 11th, featuring musical and theatrical performances,  fireworks, and plenty of wines and foods from France and neighboring countries. Heidi Swanson’s 10 Days in Paris

Food blogger, photographer, and world traveler Heidi Swanson reflects on 10 idyllic days in Paris. From the flea markets at Clignancourt to the gelato at Pozzetto to dinner at Le Verre Volé, she hit a number of our favorite spots.

Ten Days in Paris

Text and photos by Heidi Swanson, 101 Cookbooks

It’s 5:45 in the morning, the sky is starting to glow ever so slightly near the horizon, and all is still and quiet outside. I’m sitting on my sofa wide awake. My body thinks it’s the middle of the day, and there is no way around it – I’m in for a couple more early mornings before I can shake this jet lag. So. I thought I’d make myself some tea, watch the sun come up, and take a bit of time to share my notes on Paris, before the details of this adventure start to slip my mind. Continue Reading »

Veggies chez vous – seasonal delights home delivered in Paris

hautdupaniermain

Fall is here, and with that the harvest. There is no good reason that Paris dwellers need forego the delights of eating the bountiful produce found within easy reach of the city of lights.  Wanting to remain local and support the neighboring economy and help reduce the negative impact on our planet of carting in food from faraway lands, I set off to find fresh produce locally grown and home delivered. A friend of mine introduced me to Le Haut du Panier and I decided to find out what it was all about. Continue Reading »
