Vintage shopping can be a truly rewarding experience: the joy of stumbling upon a forgotten classic and finding new ways of re-interpreting the old and mixing it up with the new. The organizers of Salon du Vintage - true enthusiasts – understand this, which is what makes this vintage fashion and furniture fair special, its reputation keeps growing amongst collectors and casual shoppers alike. Held this year at the beautiful premises of a Hôtel particulier in Saint Germain des Prés, with over 50 exhibitors the fourth edition of the Salon du Vintage promises to be a treasure trove for vintage enthusiasts.
The curators have put real thought into their selection, each contributor, each piece, is carefully chosen, as is every other element – the location, the layout, the design – to make this an enjoyable shopping experience. This year, the theme of le passé révisité has been selected, exploring the concept of what ‘vintage’ means, and its role in the modern world. Designers constantly look to the past for inspiration; renewing and reinterpreting old trends and designs, the results of which often become classics in their own right for example, Philippe Starck’s ‘Louis Ghost’ chair.
Versions of other constantly evolving classics, such as Liberty print fabrics, 1970s Adidas trainers and the Egg chair, are sure to make an appearance, showing just how much of a part the past often has to play in creating something new and exciting. The Salon du Vintage is the perfect place to get find aesthetic inspiration, and of course, to do some serious shopping.
