Brocante Shopping in Normandy with My French Country Home

Brocante finds in action (Laurence Amélie)

At My French Country Home in Normandy, we love to go antiquing. We welcome guests from all over the world, from private shoppers looking to experience real French brocantes (flea markets) and hopefully bring back a special souvenir of their holiday in France, to professionals looking for hidden gems to add a little French je-ne-sais-quoi to their boutiques.

Bedrooms decorated with brocante finds

Here is how it went for a recent client, Jeni, who came to shop for her vintage rental company in California. She was only here for 24 hours, but thanks to careful planning and her ability to make quick decisions, she managed to purchase all kinds of amazing loot!

French linens found at a brocante

On Saturday afternoon I introduced her to my favorite brocante stores. Each store has its own particular style and our van started filling up pretty fast…

She loved all the stores I took her to. I made sure to include a diversity of options in our itinerary, from Christelle’s oh-so-chic boutique, to Laurent’s packed antique shop, where she found two beautiful desks… Without forgetting Jacky’s Aladdin-esque, bursting-at-the-seams, cove of treasures.

Home for supper and a good night’s sleep in our guest cottage…

Sunday morning we showed up at the first fair before dawn and started our browsing by flashlight. When the sun rose, it revealed a beautiful view.

Here Jeni lucked out again with a few more treasure, including a mannequin with which she fell madly in love, a selection of charming vintage chairs and some stunning linen baskets.

I always try to take my guests to shop in beautiful surroundings! It’s so much more fun! Then home to unpack and repack and list and count and sigh and enjoy ….

If you’d like to try your hand at a brocante spree or if you are just looking for a day out from Paris to soak in some French country atmosphere and take home something special, you are welcome to contact Sharon Santoni at My French Country Home.

And if you prefer the idea of visiting for a few days, there is a small group tour planned for the first week of September, with accommodation in a local château and a busy and varied 4 day program…

Beautiful! I love those 2 pictures at the beginning, especially the kitty! And the pictures of the house with all the greenery remind of me of the house in Provins I just visited last weekend: http://wp.me/p1AGty-bv

  • Lovely article – has me positively longing to go brocante-ing! Here in Pas-de-Calais we have many brochantes, vide greniers, braderies, marche au puces etc but I’ve never seen any that look quite as lovely as in your photos – I will look harder!

  • I have to say that brocante in the Vendee is a very different animal, It looks like your on a film set:)

    Hello Sharon
I am from South Africa and I would love to join your September. My husband will be working in Paris by then and I want to know if it is possible to join your tour by day but at the evenings I want to return to him. Is it possible to do it that way (I can come with my own transpost to join you).
    Thank you very much

We had a lovely stay a couple of years ago and can’t wait to return. Beautiful people in a beautiful place and tons of great brocanting….

  • Sharon is one of the “true blues” of the blog world, someone who delivers what she believes in 100% while not making her readers feel lost if they can’t come over and partake directly of her fine eye. I actually found her blog while researching a trip to Normandy that didn’t work out–but how I hope it will one day!

  • I stayed and shopped with Sharon this time last year and I am anixiously awaiting a return trip. She is amazing as is Normandy and I cannot say enough about all of the fabulous finds!
