August Events in Paris: Rock en Seine, Festival Silhouette, Restaurants Open & More

HiP Paris Blog, La Plage de GlazArtLaPlage de Glazart

August in Paris gets a bad rap amongst the visiting community. The city is dead, your favorite places are closed… but this norm is starting to change, with many more restaurants remaining open for parts of the month. And there’s no shortage of enticing events, proving August in Paris can be fabulous too (and hey, who doesn’t love a slightly less crowded city?)

So, about those restaurants keeping their doors open and “fermeture pour congés d’été signs down. Paris by Mouth has graciously done the legwork for us and rounded up where to snag a table this month. Peek at this list before heading out for a weekday lunch or weekend apéro.

A mid-week pick-me-up is often necessary and this month we’ll be getting our fix with Pop Meufs! on the 5th, 26th, and 27th. Focused on spotlighting women in pop culture, August’s events are at the Pavillon des Canaux in the 19ème and range from a talk on the impact of current icons, like Beyonce and Lena Dunham, with Buzzfeed France Editor Cécile Dehesdin and Slate journalist Emeline Ametis to a night with Barbi(e)turix, collective and creator of the eponymous zine dedicated to lesbian and feminist culture in Paris.

Not one of the many Parisians flocking to France’s beaches for an August jaunt? Play pretend on Saturday the 15th with Mamie’s Beach Party II at LaPlage de Glazart. La Mamie’s is a collective founded in 2007 and dedicated to creating atypical music events with a focus on groove jams. More than 2,000 people came out for their June Beach Party, so this month’s is sure to entertain. Come well rested though, they’ll be mixing from 3pm Saturday until 6am Sunday.

Need more proof that August in Paris rocks? One of the biggest summer music festivals is reserved for the weekend of the 28-30. Tickets are on sale for Rock en Seine and each day brings an impressive line-up, like Son Lux on Friday, Jamie XX and Shamir on Saturday, and Alt-J and Tame Impala on Sunday.

The 14th edition of Festival Silhouette kicks off August 28 and runs until September 5. The opening party with concerts and DJ sets is on the 26th at LaPlage de Glazart and the festival itself, featuring outdoor screenings of film shorts, will take place in the Parc de la Butte du Chapeau Rouge. The schedule is yet to be released, but keep your eyes peeled for the full program coming soon.

The traditional guinguette has seen a renaissance in Paris over the past few years, and summer Fridays can be spent at one at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Until September 11th, rendez-vous on this terrace for rosé, cocktails, tapas, and DJ sets.

LA native Low Leaf, known for her unique electronic-meets-instrumental sound, is coming to Point Éphémère on August 25th and it’s the perfect way to spend a Tuesday night. Her music is fresh and catchy, and tickets are a mere 5 euros.

Throughout the month of August one of our favorite cafés is calling all visitors. In a special aiming to encourage tourists to pop in, guests can visit L’Anticafé for 30 minutes of free usage, which includes wifi, a library, and more. And for 2 extra euros, prolong the visit and take advantage of the coffee as well. For more information and to sign up, head here.
