It’s that time of year again, when hazy summer days are behind us and locals have returned from their vacances d’été. La rentrée brings city-wide sales and anticipated new restaurant openings, but also various events worth checking out. Here are some favorites:

The festivals continue with some of the city’s more established events, including Festival d’Île de France, offering thirty concerts in a variety of styles, all centering around this year’s theme of “adventure” and running from September 6 – October 11. We also have the 44th annual Festival d’Automne from September 9 until the end of the year, dedicated to contemporary arts of all sorts, and the 85th Fête de l’Humanité the weekend of September 11 – 13. Though I’m most excited for Jazz at La Villette myself, from September 3 – 13. I grabbed a ticket to Mos Def’s show as soon as I heard about it, and will likely end up at the William Onyeabor and Nina Simone Tributes too.

Beginning September 5, one of our favorite wine addresses is kicking off a new event series we’re quite excited for. L’entrée des artistes Pigalle will be home to BOTTLE, nights celebrating music, wine, food, and cocktails, inspired by famed London club Plastic People and in partnership with J.A.W (collective with ties to artists like Gilles Peterson and Kamasi Washington). This month has three events to get excited for and more information can be found via the bar-resto’s Facebook page.

Furthering the city’s efforts to become more sustainable and future thinking, we have PARK(ing) Day on September 18th, an annual worldwide event in which artists and citizens transform metropolitan parking spaces into ephemeral public parks of sorts, and une journée sans voitures on September 27th, when most of Paris will be car-free from 11am-6pm.

I imagine most know about Paris’ Techno Parade, but there is also an entire week dedicated to the electronic music scene from September 19 – 26. In its 3rd year, the week’s festivities go well beyond what comes to mind when one thinks of electro music. There are talks around topics like electronic music festivals’ impact on local tourism, as well as concerts like Bruce Brubaker playing Philip Glass.

And what would be a month in Paris without some food-focused happenings? From September 21 – October 4, over 100 Paris restaurants are participating in Votre invité est notre invité, a two-week-long opportunity to get two menus for the price of one. Peek at the list of participating restaurants here.

And from September 25 – 27, head to Le Carreau du Temple for the second edition of Street Food Temple, part of the annual Fête de la Gastronomie. This year’s fest is spotlighting Korean fare via foodtrucks, roundtable events, DJ sets, and more.
