One of the joys of running a blog like Hip Paris is that it gives us the opportunity to work with fabulous writers, photographers, and francophiles that help us discover the city along with our readers. New restaurants, expositions, café openings and bonnes adresses make every year exciting and add variety to the city we love so much.
Along with new spots for lunch, dinner, cakes, and coffee, we also love to visit the city’s institutions and unique shops- like Pep’s, the city’s only remaining umbrella repair shop– and examine different aspects of French culture.
2017 was the occasion to delve deeper into what makes Paris so special. We are so grateful for all the collaborations and contributions we had from our writers and photographers, without whom the blog would not exist. We would also like to thank all our loyal readers who are along for the adventure of exploring Paris and endeavoring to understand its complex and beautiful people and culture. You are constantly on the look out for new, unique, and original spots and we are grateful to you for keeping us in the loop!
Each new year brings with it a round of restaurants, cafés, bistrots, and bars to stimulate the palette and set the bar for city eating even higher. This year we fell hard for Mokonuts, which serves delicious lunch and deserts in the 11th arrondissement. The inspired use of vegetables and the creative cookies made this address one of our favorites of 2017.
The trend towards clean eating and going veggie continues to be on the rise, and our resident vegan correspondents Veggie Magnifique were kind enough to share with us their top 10 vegetarian restaurant picks. Our quest for the best breakfast in the city continued with an exploration of where to find the best brunch in Paris. While you’re out for brunch why not follow our advice on how to spend a Sunday in Paris.

Exploring the Paris is one of our favorite pastimes and we love to take our readers off the beaten path. Our post on Rue Myrha: One of the Coolest Corners of Paris’ Goutte d’Or brought to life one of our favorite neighborhoods in the city.

We believe that part of appreciating Paris is delving into French culture and exploring our relationship with the country we love. Expats constantly negotiate their relationship with their adopted home, and we love to hear more about their experiences. This year we explored the mystique of French Chic and our Expat Mom series delved into the experience of becoming a mom abroad and raising a Franco-American baby. We also addressed the evolving opinion of smoking in France and the relationship between the French and their cigarettes.
As we wrap up 2017 and look back at what the year has brought us we’re proud of the original content we shared with you and excited about bringing more news from Paris in the year to come. We promise to continue to scout out the best of the city to help you plan your next trip, discover a new neighborhood, or just dream of wandering the city’s streets. None of this would be possible without our team of writers and photographers. An extra big merci to our regular HiP Paris contributors this year, including:
We would also like to thank our interns who work so hard to keep the blog up and running. Merci beaucoup Tristan, Ali, and Lili.
We wish you all a very happy New Year and all the best for the year ahead. -Emily and Erica
