April Events in Paris: Beer Week, Urban Art Fair, Gilles Peterson & More

April Events in Paris: Paris Beer Week, Gilles Peterson in Concert, Exhibitions, and More!

Paris Beer Week, Clément Leriche

Until April 9th, the Musée de Minéralogie is hosting an exhibition of British artist Amy Hilton’s work. As the museum name might suggest, Hilton’s subject of choice is very much nature-based and the aesthetic ethereal and soft. There’s an interesting calming effect to viewing her work, one we could all use a bit of. And not surprisingly, I first learned of Amy Hilton via the wonderful Seymour Magazine.

April Events in Paris: Super Barquette, Le Fooding Priceless Souper, Gaultier & More

April Events in Paris: Banlieues Bleues, Jean Paul Gaultier at the Grand Palais, Céline Pham at Table Ronde, Amuse Gueule, Super Barquette, Les Plans d'Avril Festival, and Le Fooding's Priceless Souper at Il Brigante.

Super Barquette Frenchie to Go, Mickaël Bandassak

If a springtime weekend out of the city is in order, we suggest heading north to Seine-Saint-Denis for Banlieues Bleues. The festival features a slew of jazz concerts, and given that this is the event’s 32nd year, they certainly know how to put together a fabulous lineup. Get your tickets soon, as the festival wraps on April 17.

Signs of Spring in Paris: Asparagus & Daffodils, Fresh Market Produce & Sunny Picnics

Spring in Paris: Fresh flowers, seasonal fruits and vegetables, bike rides, and picnics in the sun

Spring is blossoming in Paris as sprigs of green sneak into our grey city, bringing us back to life after months spent under winter skies. As an opening act to the Lily of the Valley vendors in May, bunches of daffodils are now being hawked on street corners, in front of cafés and bistros, and in flower shops across the city. The cheerful flowers are the first sign of the transition towards spring for Parisians, who can’t help but bring a bunch home to brighten up their cozy apartments.

April Events in Paris: Boot Cafe, Grilled Cheese, Priceless Soupers at Bones, and More!

Grilled Cheese Factory

Another new Parisian resto is borrowing a stateside favorite; The Grilled Cheese Factory has opened at 9 rue Jacques Coeur and is serving up their versions of the classic. They’ve got the standard grilled cheese on offer, of course, as well as some more experimental incarnations (pastrami, mac & cheese, smoked salmon…) Sure, a croque monsieur is delicious, but who doesn’t love a good old grilled cheese with a bowl of steaming tomato soup once in a while?

9 rue Jacques Cœur, 75004 Paris. Tel: +33 (0)1 77 10 67 83. Métro: Bastille.

Bones & Boot Cafe

Just a quick walk from The Grilled Cheese Factory, the Marais has another neighborhood newcomer: Boot Café. This latest addition to Paris’s burgeoning coffee scene is serving up Belleville Brûlerie coffee and Emperor Norton sweets, to stay (if you can get one of the few tables in the tiny shop) or to go.

19 Rue du Pont aux Choux, 75003 Paris. Tel: +33 (0)6 26 41 10 66. Métro: Saint-Sébastien Froissart.

April Events in Paris: Lobster Rolls, Paris PopUp Brunch, Keith Haring and More

Food

Lobster rolls in Paris? Mais oui! Le Lobster Bar is opening up just in time for warm weather. The only thing that could compete with a lobster roll and a cold beer on a hot summer day might just be fresh tortillas and guacamole… And that’s also happening with Mil Amores Tortilleria, with a little help from the chef at Candelaria. Perfect timing.

Paris Pop-Up

Mark your agendas: the next Paris PopUp dinner, courtesy of Frenchie’s Laura Vidal and Harry Cummins, will take place on/around May 19, with tickets going on sale April 19. This installment will be a convivial brunch/lunch setup, with mixologists on hand, sweet music, and possibly a surprise appearance from across the channel. Can’t wait! Email [email protected] starting April 19 to score a spot.
