February Events in Paris: World’s Largest Wine Tasting, Salon de l’Agriculture, Lady Gaga & More

HiP Paris Blog rounds up the top events in Paris this FebruaryMaja Petric

The doldrums of winter set in with the arrival of February but fortunately we can count on France to serve up some gastronomic delights to hold us over until the arrival of spring.

The month kicks off with a plethora of wine events in the Loire Valley that inspire Parisians to plan a weekend getaway to the countryside. La Dive Bouteille, which takes place on February 4th  to 5th, is the largest natural wine tasting known to man and brings together hundreds of winemakers from France and around the world. If the idea of that many people makes you feel claustrophobic, try the more intimate “off” tastings that happen during the same weekend in nearby Angers.

Love (and rain) are in the air in Paris these days. Aside from Valentine’s Day festivities with your cheri(e), here are our favorite events around Paris this month:

HOPUP D’HIVER I, the winter pop-up meal series from Les Dîners Bons, is happening this week. Three meals – dinners Thursday and Friday nights and brunch Saturday morning – will feature three chefs and three brasseurs who will create seasonal meal-beer pairings for just 21eur for three courses.

February in Paris: Café Pinson 2, Café Kitsuné, Hai Kai, Festival Circulation(s) and More

February Events, HiP Paris Blog, Cafe Pinson

Café Pinson

The popular Café Pinson has expanded beyond its first location in the 3rd and opened up shop on rue du Faubourg Poissonniere in the 10th. The vibe is a touch retro-meets-nautical, and the menu is stacked with organic, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, fresh pressed juices, bio wines, and Coutume coffees.

Festival Circulation(s) (Marlous van der Sloot)

Another hyped café opened up just a few weeks ago and it too is offering up healthy eating and drinking options, conveniently located in the 1st. Brought to us by famed fashion/music label Maison Kitsuné, the new (and, as you can imagine, quite hip) Café Kitsuné is serving Brazilian coffee, fresh juices from Bob’s juice bar, and gluten-free pastries from NOGLU.

A new restaurant has popped up along the Canal St Martin and we cannot wait to give it a taste. Haï Kaï, under chef Amélie Darvas (formerly of the Meurice and L’Ami Jean, to name a few), is presenting a wonderfully priced menu that can be enjoyed at hours unheard of in Paris.

L’Amour: This Valentine’s day you could dine at the Eiffel Tower or stroll through St Germain tasting all the heart-shaped sweets, or you could indulge in a little quirk and collective romanticism. Join fellow lovebirds on the Pont au Double for the Freeze Romantique, a sort of reverse flash mob where couples are invited to join in five minutes of public smooching. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely would recommend a stroll over to Laduree, Pierre Herme, et al afterwards – if only to make up the calories.

February Events in London: Balthazar, The Colbert, Man Ray and More

A. Marques

They say the best things come in twos. That rule doesn’t apply, however, when ordinarily respectable restaurants transform their dining rooms to seas of two-tops decorated with token red flowers in honor of Valentine’s Day. How boring!

The Colbert

Below you’ll find the two newest, most buzzed about brasseries to open in London, along with new retrospectives of two boundary pushing, innovative photographers’ work, and two rarely performed works by dance provocateur Pina Bausch presented at Sadler’s Wells. Continue Reading »
