Bloom Cantine: Local and Home Made Cuisine at Paris Café in the 11th Arrondissement

On a quiet street in the 11ème, a few blocks away from the bustle of Bastille, sits a quaint canteen that opened this past spring and embodies the local, fait mason trend we’ve been seeing so much of in Paris recently. I cozied up at Bloom on a recent rainy Friday afternoon with a visiting American friend and enjoyed a lovely lunch.

The menu was rather small and many of the options had ingredients in common (most notably carrots), but we took this as an indicator of freshness. The meal was a simple one and perfect for an impromptu lunch date. I opted for the carrot-cumin velouté and Thai meatballs with a chilled peanut sauce, a sliver of gratin dauphinois, and spinach salad. I was too stuffed for dessert, but the options were cute and homey, ranging from an apple crumble to a waffle with pâte à tartiner.

  1. Lynn – we miss it too! It was a great spot. I’m not certain the MG team is involved in another venture at the moment, but certainly hope so.

  2. This makes me miss Mamie Green, the previous occupants of this space, so much! Do you happen to know if they are involved in this new pursuit?
