Terrace & Pizza Da Carmine. Photo Erica Berman
Last Wednesday was perfect weather in Paris (not a common occurrence) and I was having dinner with good friends. What better time to find a terrace to dine on and enjoy the setting sun and breeze? Unfortunately, despite the fact that it is mid-August, and rumor is that there is no one around, everywhere I called was fully booked. I wasn’t the only one with the novel idea of an outdoor dinner. So, where to go to enjoy the evening?
Well, just down the street from my Montmartre apartment, the local neighborhood pizza joint Da Carmine consistently churns out delicious pizzas non-stop from 18:30 to 23:30 Monday to Saturday. It is always full and always served with a smile. This is the real thing, Napoli in Paris. Carmine, the Napolitano owner, will greet you with a cheerful “Come vai?” and settle you in. There are many tables outside on the sidewalk and, although there is no view there is a slight breeze and lots of people watching.
While da Carmine is not a spot for romance – tables are close as are your dining counterparts – it is an excellent choice for a quick pizza in a friendly neighborhood joint. Come early as tables fill fast, lines are long and reservations are not accepted.

PS: The pizza was so good (I had the Bufalata: bufala mozzarella, arugula, cherry tomatoes and porcini mushrooms) that I had to return last night for take out. Sipping my complimentary rosé on the terrace, waiting for my pizza to come out of the oven, I had to smile and admit that Paris in August is a great place to be. And eating it on my balcony a few minutes later with a view of the city, I was even more convinced.

That looks sooooooo good. Do they deliver? To Miami?
Excited to be trying this within the week! The Bufalata sounds perfect.
that does it – I am flying to Paris for Neapolitan pizza!
Well, you do have great pizza in Brooklyn, but this might be equally as good! 🙂 We will be back in December so you better start thinking of where we need to go!
There is absolutely nothing like salad greens on pizza. I love to toss arugula with evoo & lemon juice before topping a thing, heavily-cheesed pie. Yours are beautiful!
This one was truly yummy!!
