January 9 – February 12: Winter Soldes: Making good on New Year’s resolutions is in full-force at this time of the year and perhaps a wardrobe update is on your list? Even if it isn’t, tackling the winter soldes is a must! These nationwide sales happen only twice each year – in the winter and summer – so brace yourself for the crowds and hit your favorite shops during these few weeks!

January 19-21: Salon de la Lingerie at the Porte de Versailles: Paris is a city of many names, and for me it’s always been the queen of beautiful lingerie; decorative, carefully-crafted lace and silk wares that are true investment pieces. For a few days this month, Paris will formally become the Capital of Lingerie with a giant exposition at the Porte de Versailles entirely dedicated to beautiful under-garments. And guys needn’t be shy, menswear is au rendez-vous as well.

Through January 20: Impressionism and Fashion at the Musee d’Orsay: I had never really thought of the Impressionists as illustrators of modern fashion, but this exhibition at the Musee d’Orsay has changed by mind. Pieces by the greats – Monet, Degas, Renoir, etc. – are shown to highlight the fashion and beauty trends that were popular during their day.

Until February 17: Exposition Bourse du Talent: For the 6th year, the Bourse du Talent has teamed up with the Bibliotheque Nationale de France to showcase rising talent in the photography field. Up-and-comers were judged by a group of high-ranking professionals in the art world, and only the best were chosen to show at this exposition. A wonderful opportunity to take in varying pieces by emerging artists, and certainly not to be missed!

Festival Russenko, January 25-27

Through March: Au-delà du street art at L’Adresse Musée de la Poste : Some of the biggest names in urban street art take their work to a more traditional setting for this gallery show. This exhibition hosts more than 70 pieces by the likes of Banksy and Invader, and some of the pieces were specially created specially for the event. Take in the best of this genre; long trip around the city not required.

January 23: Toro Y Moi at Le Trabendo (): Chazwick Bundick, the American producer and recording artist who is Toro Y Moi, has mastered the lazy summertime sound – formally knows as “chillwave” – and is bringing it to Le Trabendo this month. Because we could definitely use a little sunshine right about now.

January 29: Sophie Hunger at La Cigale: Sophie Hunger seems to be an interesting character. Her sound is folky pop and The Guardian described her as “Laura Marling, Beth Orton and Björk in one folk-rocking package.“ This will certainly be an upbeat, creative show, and a lovely way to spend a Tuesday night.

January 22, 30 & 31: Thomas Enhco Trio at Théâtre du Châtelet  and Duc des Lombards: Thomas Enhco is a 20-something Parisian and amazing jazz talent. He dropped out of school at the age of 12 to study classic piano and has been touring the world since he graduated from the Paris Conservatory. This time he’ll be joined by two others at the famed house of jazz, Duc des Lombards.

January 19 – 20: Cidisc, Convention Internationale de Disques de Collection at the Espace Champerret: A little nod to the music lovers who maintain that listening to an album on vinyl is the absolute best way to experience the songs (though who doesn’t love a retro crackling as intro to a tune?). In a few short weeks, join like-minded individuals at the Espace Champerret for this great record festival and walk away with some fabulous additions to your collection. Entry is free and the space will be stocked with albums from all genres. Expect surprise appearances.

Festival Russenko, January 25 – 27

January 25 – 27: The 4th edition of the Festival RussenKo returns in celebration of Russian culture and Russophones in France. The eclectic program boasts exhibitions of photography, literature, music, cinema and more. Yes, it’s true this event technically takes place outside of Paris in la Ville du Kremlin-Bicetre, but it’s short metro ride away and certainly worth the quick trip.

Maison et Objet, January 18 – 22 (Alexis Mialaret)

January 18-22: Maison et Objet, the trade show for interior design and fashions, returns for its winter event from January 18 – 22. This event is reserved for industry professionals, and perhaps those who can get creative about gaining entry.

January 17 – 22: Paris Deco Off, the alternative interior decor fair, is happening at the same time. Why not hit up both?
