Dissecting the Myth of the “Parisienne” with Lindsey Tramuta
Inspired by her latest book, “The New Parisienne: the Women & Ideas Shaping Paris“, author and journalist Lindsey Tramuta will explore the origins of the oversimplified archetype of the Parisian woman — white, lithe, and ever-fashionable.
The conversation will cover the evolutions and transformations of the myth over time, its modern-day figures, as well as addressing the reasons why the storytelling around her has been problematic. Finally, participants will be introduced to several women who reflect the complexity and diversity of the population, all of whom are part of shaping Paris into a blossoming cultural center of feminine power.
Led by an expert on French culture, Lindsey Tramuta, this interactive seminar will tackle the historical creation of mythmaking around Parisian women. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of how the archetype was formed, why it has prevailed, and why it must be completely recast.
