The Sacré-Coeur Basilica in Montmartre is one of the most visited sites in Paris, and from its perch you can enjoy one of the best views of the city. Many visitors who trek up to the basilica inevitably also visit the neighboring Place du Tertre. While the square is charming, the restaurants that line it are not the most recommendable. Nevertheless, whether you’re looking for a quick bite or inventive cuisine, a short walk will take you to these great restaurants near Sacré-Coeur.

A brief saunter down the stairs to the right when facing the basilica will lead you to this gourmet sandwich shop. On their regularly changing lineup of sandwiches, served on bread from the renowned Mamiche bakery, you’ll find intriguing combinations like asparagus, roasted bacon, and aïoli or tartare of razor clams with sundried tomatoes and rocket. They also sell a notable selection of craft beers, wines, and other artisanal food products in their takeaway épicerie section.

Urban Greener

Situated virtually across the street from Buffet is this charming newcomer to the Parisian vegan scene. Although it has a small dining room and an equally petit menu, it’s big on flavor. You can choose between their plat du jour, poke bowls, or tartines gourmandes—bite-sized delights, made with their homemade “cheese,” bread, and other seasonal items. Order them to go and enjoy in the park beneath Sacré-Coeur.

Sarté

Located on a side street at the base of the Sacré-Coeur hill is this recently opened néo-bistrot. Chef Kazuki Yasukawa concocts different dishes every day based on what’s freshest at the market. Think mini tarts of bass, white asparagus, comté cheese, and truffles or scallops in a buckwheat crust served with cauliflower purée and dulse seaweed sauce.

Le Bon, la Butte

A stone’s throw from the main tourist street next to Sacré-Coeur, rue Norvins, is this charming local bistrot. Within its airy dining room with traditional wooden café tables you can sample creative French food with international flavors like tandoori-style boeuf bourguignon or miso-glazed mackerel filet. If you happen to be visiting Sacré-Coeur on a Friday or Saturday, you can treat yourself to their excellent-value lunch menu of three courses for only 20€.

If you’re not set on eating French food, you can find one of the best pizzerias in Paris practically at the foot of Sacré-Coeur. Innovative pizzaiolo Gennaro Nasti has devised a menu of both classic and contemporary pizzas using exceptional ingredients and cooked in a wood-fired oven. It also has the added bonus of outdoor seating facing a pretty square, Place Charles-Dullin, home to the Théâtre de l’Atelier, and virtually not a tourist in sight.
