Maison du Chantilly. Whipped cream desserts in the heart of Paris.

Just a stone’s throw from the Eiffel Tower, Rue Cler has long been renowned for its impeccable selection of shops – one of the best places in Paris to pick up fresh produce, quality cheeses, and fish so fresh you may swear you see them wriggling. The latest specialty shop to join the impressive array serves something rather unexpected – its entire menu is based around Chantilly cream.

After selling its cream exclusively at La Grande Épicerie de Paris since its founding in 2013, Maison de la Chantilly opened its first boutique on Rue Cler, dedicated to the art of the French whipped cream. It was first created in the kitchens of the Château de Chantilly to be served at banquets, and is still served in the hamlet restaurant in the château gardens.

In order to be called crème Chantilly, the product must be made with 30% milk fat cream (what is commonly sold as whipping cream). Maison de la Chantilly makes theirs with 38% milk fat, resulting in a richer, more voluminous cream. Serving options at the shop range from cones and coffee to simple cups of Chantilly cream and pastries filled right in front of you. It can be topped with fruit or eaten plain, but the simplicity of the serving really brings out the texture and flavor of the cream, without being too sweet, as it is not overly sugared.

The boutique itself is bright and airy, decorated entirely in blue and white with silver accents in the machinery and mirrors. A small covered outdoor patio provides a place to sit and people watch while you savor, or you can stroll down rue Cler with your cone, the tang of freshly sliced raspberries countering the cream’s richness, indulging in a treat equally enjoyed by royalty of pre-revolutionary France.
