What to do in Paris in August

by Emily Dilling

While August is known as a calm month in Paris, with locals emptying out of the city and scattering to summer vacation destinations around the world, there are still plenty of events to accommodate those of us who stick around. August is also a great month to visit the many fabulous locations that are just a day trip away from Paris. If you plan on staying in town this August, here are a few fun ways to spend your time!

Paris Summer Film Festivals

Film lovers and star-gazers will enjoy Paris’ outdoor cinema events. Cinéma en Plein Air at La Villette continues until August 18 and the festival La Chaise et l’Ecran, which goes until August 9, features short films screened in small gardens and streets of the 11th arrondissement.

The end of August brings with it yet another film festival as the Association Silhouette presents short films and concerts at the Parc de la Butte-du-Chapeau-Rouge in the 19th arrondissement (August 30 to September 7).

Craft Beer and Tanqueray in Paris

Don’t forget to stay hydrated as August temperatures rise in Paris. While some bars and restaurants close this month, a few remain open to quench your thirst. Head to Le Supercoin on August 2 for their Swimming London event, which will include craft beer on tap accompanied by a sixties Brit Pop DJ set. On August 27 cool down with a refreshing gin cocktail at the Tanqueray Tonic Pop-Up hosted by 15th arrondissement cocktail bar Tiger

Urban Beaches and Paris Summer Music Festivals

And don’t forget: Paris Plages continues to host events and lounge spaces along the Seine all summer long; the annual Rock en Seine festival (August 23 to 25) will feature headliners such as Aphex Twin, The Cure, and Major Lazer; and for the third year the Parc de la Villette becomes an inflatable paradise with bouncy castles, slides, and other attractions to delight kids of all ages (June 16 to September 2).
