Veganism has been growing rapidly in France and as such, the number of vegan restaurants in Paris is also happily on the rise. Chefs are becoming more creative and vegans are no longer relegated to simple salads. From chic bistros to cool contemporary cafés, here are the some of the best newcomers on the Paris vegan scene.

This airy space located just off of buzzing rue de Charonne has taken a unique angle with their offerings: vegan tapas. At lunch they propose a great value menu (entrée/plat, plat/dessert for 15.50€), whereas in the evening they serve inventive tapas that change weekly, such as faux-gras with onion chutney, pissaladière nicoise tart and lentil terrine, all 100% organic and vegan. They also have a commendable wine list handpicked from their visits to the wineries themselves.

Opened in September 2018, the New York-style café—exposed brick and all—has already become popular with locals thanks to its welcoming ambiance, peanut butter brownies, and daily lunch specials ranging from original toasts to healthy bowls made with seasonal ingredients.

Also opened last September, this venue by three vegan-convert Parisian friends is certainly the most stylish arrival on Paris’ vegan repertoire. The ambiance is new-meets-old Paris, with ceiling moldings and large mirrors contrasted by funky lighting and touches of color. And the creative, regularly changing menu features the likes of shiitake and ginger dumplings, “blue cheese” and pear chutney tartine, linguine with creamy porcini sauce and grilled artichoke hearts, and their tempting homemade seitan burger topped with smoked “cheese,” caramelized onions, and garlicky vegan mayonnaise.

Brunch is proving to be more than a simple fad in Paris, and one of the city’s earliest veggie burger joints launched its take on this weekend meal in February, available on Sundays at their restaurant in the 9th arrondissement. The presentation might be in keeping with their “fast food” approach, nevertheless, the quality and taste are anything but. The copious feast includes incredibly convincing scrambled “eggs” with mushrooms, their signature wedge fries, delicious guacamole, a quinoa croissant, and an array of other sweet and a savory brunch items, plus fresh-squeezed orange juice and unlimited hot beverages.
