There’s a new daytime dining address in the 18th and it’s making a killing on its wholesome plant-based dishes. Abattoir Végétal (literally “Vegetable Slaughterhouse”) is a vegetarian breakfast and lunch spot on the “other side” of Montmartre.

Located in a former butcher shop, this more humane creation focuses on healthy vegetarian menu items, which range from breakfast bowls bursting with fruits, muesli, granola, and plant-based dairy alternatives, such as almond milk and yogurt made from cashews (6-7 euro).

The lunch menu changes daily and features foreign-influenced vegetarian options, including falafel, curries, keftas, and California-inspired salads (fixed menu 15.50-18 euro). A weekend brunch menu will also be an option beginning in February, served between 11-16h at a fixed price of 25 euro (5 euro for children under 10 years old).

All menu items can be washed down with a wide variety of healthy elixirs, including “Wellness Lattes” (5 euro), cold-pressed juice (4.50-7 euro), smoothies (5-8 euro), juice shots (3 euro), and “real” coffee (from Café Coutume, 2.40-4.50 euro). There is also a selection of craft beers and organic wines to choose from.

Abattoir Végétal is committed to working with Paris-based producers and local businesses too. Their partners include the gluten-free 11th arrondissement bakery Chambelland, neighborhood brewery the Brasserie de la Goutte d’Or, and “the muesli boys” at Dear Muesli.

This cozy, “healthy bistrot” is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, bringing a diversity of flavors, as well as the coffeehouse favorites we all love (think poached egg on toast, homemade cakes). The small space fills up quickly on weekends, so you may want to reserve in advance to grab a table and enjoy wholesome food in this haven for vegetable lovers.
