From the neighborhood to budget, there are a lot of things to consider when choosing where to stay in Paris. We often recommend staying in apartments, however, sometimes one needs (or prefers) the comforts, vibe, and social ambiance of a hotel. To help you sift through the myriad of options, we’ll be sharing some of the best boutique hotels in Paris in a mini-series on the topic. Our first showcases some wonderful “hidden” boutique hotels—unique, cool, or chic bases tucked away in discreet spots around the capital.
One of the top hidden hotels in Paris, this former mansion turned exclusive hotel, restaurant, and bar is nestled within a private garden in a secret spot in Montmartre. It has five suites, all supremely stylish and luxurious. Plus, you have the pleasure of hanging out on its pretty garden terrace whenever you like.
Walking around the quiet side streets of the Upper Marais, you would hardly guess there was a hotel behind the facade of a defunct boulangerie. As discreet as its entrance is, its interiors, designed by none other than fashion icon Christian Lacroix, are hardly humble.
Each category of room has a different spirit, but expect leopard print next to Belle Époque dames, with an exotic bird or two thrown into the mix. In addition to its eclectic decor, the best shops, bars, and restaurants of this trendy area are right at its doorstep.
If you prefer a crisp modern look for your Marais stay, then book a room at this cool hotel located on the up-and-coming rue des Gravilliers. Named after François Truffaut’s cult 1962 film, the 23 rooms are spread between the main building and two smaller courtyard-side outposts. The hotel’s minimalist decor is accentuated by the works of regularly changing contemporary artists, which you can also admire from the hotel’s central terrace bar, home to a vertical garden and fireplace in winter.
This intimate hotel is found within twin low-rise buildings located on a private lane just north of the very central Grands Boulevards.
Its rooms have a stylish yet cozy feel thanks to a modern color palette, beautiful textiles, and designer wallpaper. You’ll also find Parisian subway tile on the walls of the luxurious bathrooms and private balconies in some rooms.
Tucked away on a side street in the heart of Saint-Germain, and steps from its legendary cafés and chic boutiques, is this art-inspired five-star hotel.
Occupying a former 19th-century printing house that published Guy de Maupassant’s novel “Bel-Ami,” the hotel beautifully combines the modern-day sophistication of the neighborhood with its bohemian heritage, a welcoming and stylish look created by today’s top Parisian designers and contemporary artists. Some rooms have views over the Place Saint-Germain whereas new apartment rooms have living rooms with kitchenettes, ideal for an apéro of gourmet delicacies acquired in the quality food shops of the area.
Another Left Bank gem, this hotel is hidden down a pedestrian cul-de-sac, a stone’s throw from Le Bon Marché department store. The decor is contemporary chic with unique design touches, like cool mirrors and modern photos, and some rooms have glimpses of the Eiffel Tower.
