What to do in Paris in September

With September comes la rentrée, the time when Parisians returns from their summer vacations, rested and ready to get back to work. And that means there’s plenty to do in Paris this month. 

The Place to Drink

Make the most of the mild weather by spending your evenings en terrasse. Every Saturday night this month, you can enjoy a glass of rosé or champagne at La Terrazza by Night Birds, complete with DJs and a dance floor, ping pong, and free entry. 

If gin is more your thing, check out the Eden Garden x Bombay Sapphire pop-up at Café A. From Wednesday to Sunday, grab a cocktail in an open-air art gallery, with original work by street artists such as Leona Rose, Caroline Derveaux, PBOY, and Laura Gonzalez Cabrera. And beer lovers can look forward to La Fête de la Bière from the 14^th-15^th.

The Art Exhibitions Not to Miss

On the art front, there are several great exhibitions closing this month. Head to Palais de Tokyo before Prince·sse·s des villes closes on the 9^th. Fifty artists and creatives from Dacca, Lagos, Manille, Mexico et Téhéran are brought together to create an imaginary mega-city.

Don’t miss the exhibition of one of my favorite American photographers, Sally Mann, at Jeu de Paume, which closes on the 22^nd. And check out Carte blanche à Mr. & Pharrell Williams: “A Call To Action” an exhibition by Japanese anime/manga artist Mr. and renowned American music producer Pharrell Williams, which closes on the 23^rd at Musée National des Arts Asiatiques – Guimet.

Discover (or re-discover) the 3^rd and 4^th arrondissements as part of Les Traversées du Marais from the 6^th-8^th. Enjoy music, dance, theater, readings, and screenings. It’s also the perfect opportunity to check out artist studios, hôtels particuliers, gardens, and other unusual places in the Marais.

And we can’t forget the Journées européennes du patrimoine or European Heritage Days on the 21st and the 22nd.

The Markets to Have on Your Radar

“Act Now for Positive Fashion” is the mandate of the Paris Night Market x Impact collaboration from the 6^th-9^th at Porte de Versailles. This hybrid event features pop-up shops, talks, workshops, and concerts all focusing on ethical, sustainable, and responsible fashion and design.

Or head to Les Grands Voisins on the 21^st for Journée des Créateurs, a one-day market full of artisanal fashion, accessories, jewelry, art, decoration, plants, and food.

The Food Events To Go To

Foodies should check out the Korea Food Market on the 12^th. As always, vegans will love the Smmmile Festival on the 13^th at Parc de la Villette.

And from the 20^th-26^th, Bouillon de Minuit celebrates the famous “midnight ramen” enjoyed by late-night Tokyoïtes at a range of Paris’ best restaurants once they are closed. Think Le Grand Bain, Yard, Cafe du Coin, and more.

The Festivals to Attend

If you feel like getting out of Paris, check out Fête de l’Humanité from the 13^th-14^th at Parc Georges-Valbon and see headline act Aya Nakamura. Or from the 27^th – 29th, there’s Festival Paris Paradis at Jockey Disque Hippodrome d’Auteuil, a free event which aims to improve your life in Paris.

The festival will show you how to find accommodation, navigate, work and unwind in Paris, how to eat healthier, and connect to nature. There will be stand-up comedy, live concerts, dj sets, conferences, outdoor activities, and workshops.
