February in Paris: Café Pinson 2, Café Kitsuné, Hai Kai, Festival Circulation(s) and More

Café Pinson

The popular Café Pinson has expanded beyond its first location in the 3rd and opened up shop on rue du Faubourg Poissonniere in the 10th. The vibe is a touch retro-meets-nautical, and the menu is stacked with organic, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, fresh pressed juices, bio wines, and Coutume coffees.

Another hyped café opened up just a few weeks ago and it too is offering up healthy eating and drinking options, conveniently located in the 1st. Brought to us by famed fashion/music label Maison Kitsuné, the new (and, as you can imagine, quite hip) Café Kitsuné is serving Brazilian coffee, fresh juices from Bob’s juice bar, and gluten-free pastries from NOGLU.

A new restaurant has popped up along the Canal St Martin and we cannot wait to give it a taste. Haï Kaï, under chef Amélie Darvas (formerly of the Meurice and L’Ami Jean, to name a few), is presenting a wonderfully priced menu that can be enjoyed at hours unheard of in Paris.

The restaurant is open from 8am until midnight every day except Mondays (and closes at 4pm on Sundays) and focuses on quality ingredients tied together to create an inventive meal. Oh, and did we mention the prix-fixe menus are 19€ and 22€ for lunch and dinner, respectively?

Le Bal is showing South African photographer Mikhael Subotzky’s most recent project, in collaboration with Patrick Waterhouse until April 20th. The show is entitled Ponte City, named after the massive 54-story cylindrical tower in Johannesburg, and follows the history of the monument, from a symbol of white prosperity during apartheid to the shift towards multicultural, multi-ethnic present day South Africa.

Get your dose of inspired photography from young artists presenting at the Centquatre from February 7 until March 16. Festival Circulation(s), now in its fourth year, highlights works chosen by an expert panel during this month-long festival. Entry is free and there is also a vernissage on February 7th if you want to be one of the first to get a peek. In the meantime, be sure to read up on the photographers who will be showing.

Beat the winter blues with an upbeat music festival — the third annual Festival Fireworks is back in Paris this month with shows from February 12 – 23. We’re pretty excited about the lineup, with performances by the likes Crystal Antlers, Of Montreal, and Real Estate (who are coming out with a new album that is set to release on March 3rd in the States).

Can someone post one of these for March soon? I gotta start planning for my trip! :)

  • Had my book launch not been delayed, I could have been in Paris this week for Valentine’s Day.
So I’m going to bring a bit of Paris to Vancouver on February 14th. I’m baking quintessential macarons and fruit tarts.
