What to do in Paris in September

The year is flying by. It’s la rentrée already, and there is certainly no shortage of events this September in Paris. Soften the blow of the end of les vacances and return to work by getting out and about in the city this month:

Football Australien – Stade Emile Anthoine – September 4

As part of the Australia Now France 2021 program, Paris Cocks Footy and AFL France have organized a “footy” day with men’s and women’s matches in the heart of Paris to showcase Australia’s national sport and the Australian Football League (AFL). If you would like to kick a goal at the Eiffel Tower, head to the Emile Anthoine stadium opposite the Australian Embassy. This is a great activity for families and kids!

La Rentrée du Food Market – Boulevard de Belleville – September 9

Celebrate your return to Paris by attending Le Food Market located on Boulevard de Belleville between the Ménilmontant and Couronnes metro stations. The stallholders are yet to be confirmed, and you are welcome to make suggestions. The market starts at 6pm and runs until 10:30pm.

Art Paris 2021 – Grand Palais Éphémère – September 9-12

Art Paris is a major art fair for modern and contemporary art. This forthcoming edition will bring together 140 galleries from over 20 countries, displaying art spanning the post-war to contemporary periods.

Paris Design Week – September 9-18

The international showcase for design in Paris is back this month ready to welcome professionals, curious minds, and trend addicts as they rediscover the city through the lens of innovation. Over 10 days expect 100,000 visitors, discover 300 participants, 100 young designers, and 200 places. There will be eight themed city walks covering four neighborhoods.

L’Arc de Triomphe Empaqueté – September 18 – October 3

The team behind the iconic artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude are finally bringing their project L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped (project for Paris, place de l’Étoile – Charles de Gaulle to life). The project was originally scheduled for April 2020 but was postponed to September 2020, and then again due to COVID-19. First envisioned in 1962, 60 years later the Arc de Triomphe will be wrapped in 25,000 square meters of recyclable polypropylene fabric with 3,000 meters of rope. Unfortunately Christo passed away in May 2020, before being able to see their project come to life. The monument remains open to visitors.

Paris Electronic Week 2021 – La Gaîté Lyrique – September 22 & 24

The 9^th edition of Paris Electronic Week will facilitate several exchanges around political, social, environmental, and musical subjects via conferences, masterclasses, and workshops. The four main themes are: politics, music, ecology, and inclusion.

Food Temple Australie – Carreau du Temple – September 24

Continuing with the Australia theme, the 5^th edition of Food Temple at the Carreau du Temple invites the flavors of Australia to the table. Take a journey into contemporary Australian cuisine where Indigenous origins mingle with British, Mediterranean, and Asian influences. The event features 20 workshops, masterclasses with Australian and Aboriginal chefs, a brunch, market, and tailor-made cultural program. A must for Aussie expats missing home (like me!)
